Findom vs Femdom: Why are we still pretending they're separate?

Aug 14, 2026 · 4 min read

There seems to be a never-ending debate in this space about Findom and Femdom.

They’re separate. They’re the same. Findom isn’t “real” domination. Femdom shouldn’t involve money. A sub wants domination, but not financial domination. Another wants a session, but suddenly seems surprised that the Dominant expects to be paid for her time.

And somehow, after all these years, we’re still arguing about it. For me, the obsession with completely separating Findom from Femdom has never made much sense. Yes, they describe different things. Financial domination specifically centres money, while Femdom is a much broader umbrella of female-led dominance. But acting as though there’s some solid wall between the two ignores how these dynamics actually play out.

Findom can be an expression of Femdom. And Femdom can very easily contain elements of Findom.

If you approach a Dominant and ask for her time, attention, energy and control in a Femdom session, why would payment suddenly be irrelevant simply because the session isn't specifically about money?

This is where I see so much confusion from submissives.
“I want a Femdom session, not Findom.”
Okay. But you're still requesting a service from a professional Dominant. Paying for that session doesn't magically transform every activity within it into financial domination. It simply means her time has value.

And depending on the dynamic, that payment itself can become part of the power exchange. That's the part people seem determined to overlook.
Money is power. Who controls it, who gives it, who receives it, and what that exchange represents can all become part of submission. For some people, that is the entire kink. For others, it's one ingredient in a much bigger Femdom dynamic.

Neither is less legitimate.

I think some of the confusion comes from how Findom is presented online. People see a timeline full of “send” posts and assume that's the beginning and end of it. They reduce Findom to transferring money, while reducing Femdom to sessions involving a checklist of other kinks. But domination isn't defined by a checklist.

A submissive can hand over £50 with absolutely no meaningful power exchange behind it. Another can find the simple instruction to send £5 intensely submissive because of the person giving the command and the dynamic between them.

The transaction alone doesn't tell you what's happening psychologically. Likewise, I can dominate someone without every interaction revolving around their wallet. That doesn't mean the financial aspect of our dynamic suddenly disappears.

This becomes even more obvious in long-term dynamics.

Submission can involve rules, rituals, tasks, attention, accountability, teasing, control, rewards, consequences and, yes, money. These things aren't required to exist in isolated little boxes.

Sometimes the money is the domination.
Sometimes money supports the domination.
Sometimes it's simply the price of accessing a Dominant's time.

Those are three different things, and I think recognising that distinction would eliminate half the arguments surrounding Findom and Femdom.

What I find particularly strange is the expectation some submissives have that requesting “Femdom instead of Findom” somehow means financial expectations disappear altogether. If anything, that attitude can reveal a misunderstanding of professional domination itself. You're asking someone to provide their time, skill and attention while simultaneously deciding which parts of their value you're willing to acknowledge.

You don't get to remove money from the equation simply by changing the label on what you're requesting.

At the same time, I don't believe every act of paying a Dominant should automatically be labelled Findom. Paying a session fee isn't necessarily a financial domination kink. Context matters. Intent matters. The dynamic matters.

And that's exactly my point.

The line isn't nearly as clean as people pretend it is. Findom and Femdom aren't enemies competing for legitimacy. One doesn't cheapen the other. And a Dominant doesn't suddenly stop being a Femdom because financial control happens to be one of the ways she exercises her dominance.

For me, they go hand in hand because my Findom exists within a wider Femdom dynamic. Money is one language of submission, but it isn't the only one I speak. Maybe instead of constantly asking whether something is “Findom or Femdom,” we should start asking a better question:

“What does submission actually look like within this particular dynamic?”

Because the answer is going to be different for every Dominant and every submissive.

And sometimes, yes, it comes with a bill.
