The Road Before You

Aug 11, 2026 · 1 min read

A road stretched out before you
You went a different way
You couldn't know
The future cost
Of what you chose that day
But if you could turn back time, my love
And walk a different path
I know you'd choose
The safer way
And so avoid my wrath

The road was straight and even
The path was clearly marked
But you chose
The woodland trail
To wonder in the dark
At first it seemed quite peaceful
As you walked amongst the trees
The tranquil streams
And songbirds
Whistling in the canopy

But now, as night is falling
And predators close in
You think "perhaps
I haven't done
The best, most prudent thing"
As terror starts to grip you
And fear turns into dread
You start to wish
That you were safe
Beneath my heel instead

I'm not without compassion
Or mercy where it's due
There'll have to be
A reckoning
But you'll surely make it through
So call to me, my darling
I'll find you in the glen
I'll pick you up
And place you back
Upon the road again
