Kink Files with Dallas

Why you should ALWAYS think for yourself

BDSM and kink are built around trust, communication, consent, vulnerability, and power exchange, which makes it especially important to maintain your ability to think critically for yourself.

Respecting someone's experience or expertise doesn't mean you have to accept everything they say as unquestionable truth.

There isn't one universal rulebook for BDSM, one philosophy that applies to every person, or one authority who gets to decide what makes someone a "real" Dominant or submissive.

There are different traditions, communities, philosophies, dynamics, and approaches, and what works beautifully for one person may not work for another.

If someone tells you, "This is how BDSM works," it's okay to ask why. If someone tells you something is required, unsafe, ethical, unethical, or the "right" way to do something, it's okay to seek additional information, consider other perspectives, and make an informed decision for yourself.

Having a mentor doesn't mean surrendering your ability to question them. Having experience doesn't make someone infallible. Having a title doesn't make someone the ultimate authority.

You can respect someone's knowledge while still thinking critically about what you're being taught. Power exchange should never mean giving away your ability to make informed choices for yourself.

Learn from others, listen to people with experience, ask questions, challenge assumptions, and trust yourself enough to say, "I need to learn more before I accept this."

The goal isn't to become a copy of the person who taught you. It's to become a knowledgeable, thoughtful, self aware practitioner who understands why you believe what you believe.
