CONSISTENCY
I think consistency might be one of the most seductive qualities a person can possess.
Not intensity.
Not obsession.
Not someone arriving like a storm and promising me the world.
Just…
showing up.
There is something incredibly attractive about knowing someone will be there.
The good morning that doesn’t suddenly disappear.
The little check-in.
The goodnight.
The interest in my day that continues long after the excitement of meeting me has worn off.
Nothing spectacular.
And yet, to me, it becomes spectacular because it keeps happening.
I’ve learned not to be particularly impressed by intensity.
Intensity is easy in the beginning.
You’re excited.
You’re fascinated.
You want my attention.
You can adore me ten times a day when the feeling is new.
But will you still make me feel important when this becomes familiar?
That interests me far more.
Consistency creates something in me that demands cannot.
It makes me soften.
It makes me notice you.
It makes me trust your presence.
And perhaps most importantly, it makes me want to give something back.
Because when someone repeatedly makes a little space for me in their life…
eventually, I find myself making a little space for them in mine.
I don’t need constant attention.
I don’t want performance.
And I certainly don’t need endless declarations of devotion.
I’d rather have something much quieter.
Something I can believe.
Be there tomorrow.
And the day after that.
**And when there is nothing to gain from it.
Because anyone can make me feel adored for a moment.
Consistency is what makes me believe you mean it.
