You can pretend this is just another page you happened to find. You can tell yourself you’re only looking, only curious, only going to read and leave.

But you’re still here.

That little voice telling you to close the page is fighting the much louder voice wondering what it would feel like to finally give in. You already know where this goes. You’re going to stare at my words, think about your wallet, and convince yourself that one payment wouldn’t hurt.

And then another.

That’s how debt starts.

Not with some dramatic decision. It starts with wanting to please me just a little more than you wanted to keep your money.

So go ahead and keep pretending you’re in control. Keep calling yourself disciplined. Keep watching from the sidelines.
